More than 10,000 students are involved in the juvenile justice system in Florida. These students need the highest quality teachers to ensure they have opportunities for future success. To provide qualified individuals like you with an additional route to entering the teaching profession, ABCTE offers the Passport to Teaching program. Passport to Teaching is a state-approved route to teacher certification that pairs each teacher candidate with an advisor and offers individualized preparation to meet each candidate’s needs.
With a bachelor’s degree in any subject area, individuals have the opportunity to earn their teaching certification without additional coursework. Currently, certifications (with the corresponding grade levels the Florida certificate with be issued for) are available in elementary education (K-6), mathematics (6-12), English language arts (6-12), biology (6-12), general science (5-9), chemistry (6-12), physics (6-12), and special education/ESE (K-12). ABCTE plans to develop a history certification next year.
