Veterans must have been permanent AL resident for one year immediately prior to entry into service. The dependent of service-connected, totally-disabled veteran may qualify if veteran has been a bona-fide AL resident for five years immediately prior to date of application or date of death if veteran is deceased.
Dependents Scholarship Program
Eligibility: Alabama GI Dependents Scholarship Program for a child whose parent
- Was killed or died in the line of duty
- Is listed as Missing In Action
- Died from a service-connected disability incurred during military service
- Is living and rated 20% to 100% service connected disabled
- Is deceased but had a 20% to 100% service connected disability at the time of death
- Is or was a Prisoner of War
Benefits: Free tuition, books, and instructional fees at state institutions of higher learning or prescribed courses in trade school (36 months maximum). Must apply prior to age 26 which may be extended to age 30 in certain cases. Training to be completed within 8 years. Training period may be extended due to training delays caused by military service during training period or accident, injury, or illness during training period which delays training.

- Is or was a Prisoner of War
Benefits: Free tuition, books, and instructional fees at state institutions of higher learning or prescribed courses in trade school (36 months maximum). Widow(er) not entitled to benefits upon remarriage. No age limit established for initiation of training.

Spouse of Disabled Veteran Scholarship
Eligibility: Husband, wife, or widow of veteran with service as outlined above, who has 20% to 90% service connected disability(s) or if such veteran at time of death had 20% to 90% service connected disability(s).
Benefits: Free tuition, books, and instructional fees at state institutions of higher learning or prescribed courses in trade school for a maximum of 18 months maximum. Widow(er) not entitled to benefits upon remarriage. No age limit established for initiation of training.

Vietnam Veteran Scholarship Program
Eligibility: Vietnam Era Veteran with at least 24 months of honorable service between 8/5/64 and 5/7/75, or discharged by reason of service connected disability with less than 24 months service.
Program Benefits: Correspondence or extension course from state-supported institution. Must apply within four years from discharge date. Not eligible, if educational benefits are being received under any federal law or if maximum federal benefits have been used.

Education for Children of Deceased or Disabled Florida Veterans:
The State of Florida provides scholarships for dependent children of Florida veterans or servicemen who died in action or
died from service-connected diseases or disabilities, have been verified by the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs as
having service-connected 100% total and permanent disabilities, have been determined to have service-connected total and permanent disability ratings of 100% and are in receipt of disability retirement from any branch of the United States Armed Services, or are classified as prisoners of war or missing in action. Specific residency requirements apply and the veteran must have servced during specific wars, conflicts or events.
Tuition Deferment:
Any veteran or other eligible student who receives benefits under Chapters 30, 31, 32, or 35 of Title 38, U.S.C. or Chapter 1606 of Title 10, U.S.C., and is attending one of Florida's public universities, community colleges or vocational schools is entitled to one tuition deferment each academic year and an additional deferment each time there is a delay in the receipt of benefits.Reduced Tuition For National Guard:
Active Florida Guard members in good standing as of June 30, 1997 are exempt from payment of one-half of tuition and fees. Individuals who enlist in the Guard after June 30, 1997 are eligible for full exemption of tuition and fees. Georgia Military Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY:GA residents with 3.0 high school GPA, 1010 combined SAT and minimum of 480 verbal and 440 math, who qualify for admission to North Georgia College and State University and entry into the Army National Guard and eligible to be commissioned into the GA National Guard. Must be nominated by a GA Legislator.
BENEFITS:Full four year scholarship. Recipients agree to be a member of the Cadet Corps at Northern Georgia College and State University to serve at least four years in the Georgia Army National Guard as a commissioned officer after graduation.
